- I had trouble finding red currents.
- No.
They don't sell them at the Drovers.
- How do you know?
How do you always know?
- Because I'm a mother with a sixth sense - (laughing) - and a nose.
Have you seen my Edward knocking about?
- Let's talk about it over a brew.
- [Siegfried] When did that come back?
- [Mrs. Hall] What did you call me?
"Patron saint of lost causes"?
- Among many other, much more flattering things.
I'll drive you to Scarborough.
We won't stop until we find him.
- I've chased Edward long enough.
He knows where I am.
Caught him stealing from my former employer.
He expected me to lie from him.
- [Young Woman] No news of Edward?
- [Mrs. Hall] It said in his letter he's be here Christmas Eve.
- After what he put you through he better be groveling on bended knee.
- Still no word from Edward?
- Edward?
- [James] No, it's me.
- You're allowed to be upset, you know.
- He's got something much more exciting to do on Christmas Day than hanging around with his mother.
- [Mrs. Hall] I really thought he might be ready to forgive me - Anything from Edward this year?
- No, I didn't expect it.
That don't mean I wasn't hoping for it.
- [Mrs. Hall] I can't help thinking of my boy.
- [Man] Hey, there's a chance the whole thing will be called off.
There's still hope.
- [Edward] Dear Mother, it's been quite some time.
I'm training with the Navy.
I think it would feel right for us to meet.
- I'm sure they're on their way.
He's my son.
- Son?
- Son.
Alright.
- Mother.
Sorry for making you wait this long.
- It's quite alright.
- I really am sorry, honestly - You'll be fine.
- How can you be so sure?
- Well you'll do your training then you'll come home in one piece.
- You said war damaged Dad.
What if it damages me?
- I've always seen the good in you.
- Then why did you give me to police?
- I didn't do it to punish you.
I didn't.
I thought it would fix the mistakes I'd made somehow.
I'm sorry, Edward.
I'm so sorry.
I never stopped loving you.
- (train whistling) - What did you say, Edward?
I can't hear you.
Say it again!
What is it?
Edward!
- He said, "I love you, Ma."
- [Mrs. Hall] The very ground beneath me feels like it's shifted.
I feel... lighter.
- (inhaling) - He's finally realized how much you care.
I don't think any of us know quite how to express our gratitude to you, Mrs. Hall.
- (inhaling) - Believe me.
- Hmm.
- (sheep baa-ing)
