She wasn't so picky about the booze, though.
-Yeah, do you reckon she was drowning her sorrows?

What about the groom?
What do you make of him?
-He seems like a nice guy.
He -- He was nervous, about his speech and getting married.
He was having an argument with a woman earlier in a -- in a blue dress.

-Yeah.
It was intense and private.
-Where is she?

-We found this under the mirrors.
It's Laila's.
It was sent 15 minutes before the body was found and his phone was found in his mum's handbag.

I met them a few times when they were planning their menu and they seemed so in love.

-Well, his mum was awful.
I mean, she was a snob, an out of control drunk.
-That's not a nice thing to say about Dolly, is it, Pearl?

[Door creaks open] [Door closes] [Siren wailing] -Your phone sent a message saying, "Meet me in the mirror maze."
-I did not send that message.

-We found your phone in her bag.
-Was she hiding it for you?
-I don't -- I have no idea how that got there.

We've spoken to numerous witnesses.
No one can place Hiral at the time of the murder.

That does sound a bit far-fetched.
You were seen arguing with a woman after the ceremony.
Who is she?
-[Sighs] Cassie Lawrence.
She's -- She's just an ex.
-Arguing with your ex?
At your wedding?
-She won't leave me alone.
-[Scoffs] -I've moved on.
She hasn't.
It's pretty simple.
Look, Laila was friends with her, okay?
So, she decided to invite her, not me.
That's -- [Sighs] That's just the kind of person Laila was.

Me, my mum, Cassie -- [Striking table] it's a joke!

I -- Look, for the past six months, we've, um... ...we've been getting these calls on the landline, like prank, nuisance calls?
-How often?
-Nine, ten times a day, sometimes more.
And it's always when I'm out.
Laila picks up the phone and then whoever's calling just hangs up.
-So, someone's been harassing Laila?
Is that what you're saying?
-I guess, yeah.
Yeah, I mean, you know, we obviously didn't take it seriously at the time, but yes.
-Nine or ten times a day?
♪ -Sounds like someone who really hated her.
-We are a family of doctors.
Laila worked in social care.
Her parents don't work at all!
Her brother's been in and out of prison!
Who knows what kind of people he's involved with?
They're who you should be talking to.
-So, you thought Adnan was making a mistake marrying Laila?
-And you'd do anything for your son wouldn't you, Hiral?
-Lie.

-I know what you're doing.
-Where were you after the ceremony?

I don't remember.

This woman that you saw Adnan arguing with, just talk me through that again?
-Well, she looked angry and upset.

-They were in each other's faces.
It did look like the sort of argument a couple would have.
-Her name's Cassie Lawrence.
She's Adnan's ex.
-Does that give her a motive?
-Well, we can't find her.
Now, Adnan said Laila's been getting nuisance calls.
-Really?
-We checked.
He's telling the truth.
Someone's been harassing her -- calling and hanging up -- multiple times a day.
-Well, could that be this Cassie?
-Well, initially, that's what we thought.
But we traced the calls to a number, registered to a name and address in Derby.
Someone called Emily Forrest.
-Okay.
-Yeah, she seems to have disappeared, too.
-So, what are you thinking?
-Maybe Adnan was sleeping around.
-Well, that doesn't make him a killer.
I don't buy it was him.
I mean, why do it on your wedding day, when you're surrounded by all your friends and your family?
It doesn't make sense.
[Sighs] I can't get the image of Laila out of my head.
-It's enough to put you off weddings for life.
-[Chuckles] No chance of you proposing soon, then?
-Eh?
-To Kat.
-Nah.
Nah, that's all over.
Me and Kat, we're -- we're not together anymore.
-Oh.

[Radio chatter] [Indistinct conversations] -Cassie Lawrence?

I went round to Adnan's earlier today.

But Laurie was there.

-Laurie was the celebrant at the wedding?

[Sighs] He got together with Laila straight after.
We were friends.
He -- She wanted to stay close.
I felt I owed her the truth.
-About what?
-That's what I was arguing with Adnan about after the ceremony.
I was livid.
That's why I left in a hurry.
I came back as soon as I heard what had happened.
-Cassie, why were you and Adnan arguing?
♪ -He was supposed to tell her.
-Tell her what?
♪ -Look, am I free to go now?
-Cassie just came in for an interview.
-Really?
-Yeah.
-She said she left Adnan because he had a gambling problem.
Apparently, he's in debt.
We're talking hundreds of thousands.
And he was hiding it all from Laila.
-Well, that must've been what they were arguing about at the wedding.
[Scoffs] So, it was about money.
Who owns the house?
-Laila.
And she's got a life insurance policy, and she left it all to Adnan.
-Well, surely, that's motive.
-[Sighs] It's circumstantial.
-So you've got no real evidence.
[Sighs] Adnan trusts me.
-Pearl.
We're not doing that.
-Technically, I work for him, anyway.
He hired me to find Emily.
-I don't care.
You're not going round there.
-Look, if you talk to him, you'll get his back up.
With me, he'll feel safe.

-Listen, your fingerprints are the only ones on that murder weapon.

[Laughs] Well, I mean, he'll be back soon.
Do you -- Do you want to come in, wait here?

[Door closes] [Slurping] Ah!
-So, that black eye.
You going to tell me what happened, Laurie?
-[Sighing] It's not what you think.

-You're going to say it was Adnan.
And it wasn't.
Honestly, you've got the wrong idea about him.
[Sighs] Between you and me... it was Hiral.
She came over earlier and Adnan didn't want to see her.

This is what happens when you put yourself between a mother and her firstborn son.
-Why didn't Adnan want to see her?

-Why would Adnan need to kill Laila for money?
His family's loaded.

I've never felt a connection like it.

[Sniffles] It wasn't supposed to end up like this.

There was this case I was on.
This guy killed his wife.
He was on the run and I was spending all my time looking for him.
I was obsessed.

Just take the afternoon off and enjoy the party."
And that's when I saw him.
This guy I'd been searching for for months.
I started to follow him.
And then he ran a red light.
So, I ran the light.
And another car... ...smashed into the side of us.
