I like to do that on film.
My name is Roy D. Query I am what they call a shooter.
For a living I travel around the world photographing cars for books, magazines, calendars, whatever they'd like to hire me for.
I've shot for Autoweek, Automobile, Automobile Quarterly Road and Track, Car and Driver, Special Interest Autos.
Car style, Quattro WroteI, Starting to draw a blank.
I'm kind of a car freak I guess you could say.
Okay, right here we've got nice clean asphalt, clean yellow line good angle with the barn.
I try to do calendar shots that happen to have a car in it where the car is a focal point, but if the car wasn't there, you'd still have a nice calendar shot.
We'll be photographing a 1955 purple and white Ford convertible.
And then off in the distance, I think what we'll do is, have something else to just kind of tweak memories.
you might say the barn off in the distance.
This is a 1969 Dodge Daytona hemi winged car.
The most important part to shoot a car to me is the tires and wheels.
When you're shooting women, its hair.
With cars, it's tires and wheels To me, light is a commodity, It's gold.
And you don't stand here and say now wait a minute hold it right there sun don't go down anymore, don't get any more yellow.
So I have to do with what I have at that moment.
Finding the right background is the hardest part of the whole job, and it would take half the time of shooting a car.
There's some nice color, but we've got power poles and street signs that's a shame.
That's a nice tree right there.
With a camera, everything registers.
We could be out like we are here in a beautiful setting, but I may not be able to shoot because I might have a reflection from a power line.
Now, look at the difference between the tree and this field.
Absolutely no color, stark, dead ugly, yuck.
Well, I use psychology a lot in both in my backgrounds and in shooting the cars.
I try never to shoot a car headed down hill because that makes it look like it was wimpy.
It could be coasting, if it's going uphill, it looks aggressive, it's macho, it's got power.
This car is a Dodge Viper RT ten I like to get shots that can't be done, and I like to come up with ways of shooting cars that have not been tried before.
I'll be laying on my stomach, behind the camera.
When he gets the signal he'll light up the tires.
And then he'll release the front brake and come at me at speed.
I like it.
I have a different car every day I don't have to pay for the upkeep.
Although I do have to push an awful lot, and I have to polish a lot.
And, at the end of the day, I don't have to go back and gas it up.
